Scientific conference 1st Symposium on Theranostics will take place on 9 – 11 October 2021 at the newly established "Theranostics Center” in Kopernika 40 St. in Kraków, Poland. The conference will bring together physicists and medical specialists devoted to the development of medical diagnostic and treatment methods. The main purpose of the 1st Symposium on Theranostics is to exchange knowledge and experience from various institutions in the field of applied and fundamental nuclear physics, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, materials science, medical imaging, radiotherapy and healthcare.

1st Symposium on Theranostics will have hybrid form. The conference will be held stationary and, additionally, remote participation will be possible.

Theranostics, which will be one of the main topics of the conference, represents a new approach to medicine aimed at creating new technological solutions enabling the simultaneous detection and treatment of diseases. Theranostics as diagnostics and therapy at the molecular level is the basis of modern personalized medicine.

Positron Emission Tomography, PET, is currently the most technologically advanced method of diagnosis in oncology, neurology, cardiology, as well as in psychiatry and gastrology. It enables the detection and localization of very early stages of cancer, imaging of the circulatory and nervous systems in the patient. An innovative on a global scale contribution to the development of medical diagnostics is the PET scanner with a field of view on the patient's entire body, developed at the Jagiellonian University. Total-body Jagiellonian-PET, TB-J-PET, will enable imaging of the whole body of the patient at the same time, significantly increasing the diagnostic possibilities. The conference will present the latest results of research and development on the way to the construction of this novel device.

Topics of the conference will include:

  • radiopharmaceuticals,

  • biomarkers,

  • nanoparticles,

  • scintillators,

  • materials science,

  • molecular imaging,

  • positronium physics,

  • radiation detection,

  • data analysis and simulations,

  • signal processing,

  • medical imaging,

  • positronium imaging,

  • image reconstruction methods,

  • nuclear medicine,

  • PET imaging,

  • radiation therapy,

  • effects of radiation on living organisms,

  • radiation protection and dosimetry.

The STRANU workshop will focus on the recent results, developments and open questions in the low-energy strangeness physics sector and related areas. The workshop will bring together world-leading experts, young scientists and students, from both the theoretical and experimental sides. The present status and the open topical questions will be discussed, among which the properties of kaonic nuclear matter, the nature of the Lambda(1405) and the role of strangeness in astrophysics. These issues are being addressed worldwide by pioneering groups in strangeness physics, with recent important developments towards their deeper understanding. STRANU is in this context the perfect occasion for taking stock and glance at new horizons.

It will be dedicated to the career, research activities and the fundamental contributions which Prof. Sławomir Wycech has given and continues to give to strangeness nuclear and atomic physics.

Organizers

  • Kristian Piscicchia (Centro Fermi - Museo Storico della Fisica e Centro Studi e Ricerche “Enrico Fermi)

The Institute of Physics of Jagiellonian University, Forschungszentrum Jülich, INFN-LNF Frascati and Institute of Nuclear Physics PAS Cracow are organizing a biennial workshop to establish closer contacts between experimentalists and theorists involved in the studies of meson production, properties and interaction. The workshop will cover lectures on both experimental and theoretical aspects, in particular the presentation of new results.

The main topics of the workshop are:

  • hadronic and electromagnetic meson production,
  • meson interaction with mesons, nucleons and nuclei,
  • structure of hadrons,
  • fundamental symmetries,
  • exotic systems,
  • novel approaches in theory and experiment.

The intention is to provide an overview of the present status in these fields, as well as of new developments, and a preview of the forthcoming investigations. This workshop - the sixteenth of the series - will maintain the tradition of the workshops organized since 1991 at Cracow. The proceedings of the MESON2018 workshop have been published in EPJ Web of Conferences Vol. 199 (2019).

The workshop on "Discrete symmetries in particle, nuclear and atomic physics and implications…” will bring together about 35 world-leading experts and young scientists working on the exploration of discrete symmetries, both in theory and experimental sectors. Questions as: Why do we observe a Universe of only matter? Are the discrete symmetries, such as CPT, Lorentz or spin-statistics violated? How are they tested in particle, nuclear and atomic systems, and which are the implications for our Universe? will be at the core of the workshop which will provide a state-of-the-art overview on discrete symmetries research performed worldwide by pioneering and leading groups.
